Update: CRC Has Issues with Fax Number
As we previously reported, on October 5, 2015, the Commercial Repayment Center (CRC) began handling cases in which CMS is seeking recovery directly from the primary payer. The CRC contractor is CGI Federal, a subsidiary of CGI Group which is based in Montreal, Canada. CMS has previously contracted with CGI Federal to handle a number of initiatives, including the initial development of healthcare.gov, the website for individuals to sign up for health insurance under the Affordable Care Act. CGI also handles CMS's recovery from group health plans in certain cases.
The CRC is still working on the implementation of the new conditional payment claim recovery process. To date, they have not issued conditional payment claim correspondence in any cases that we are aware of. We have been told by the CRC that they hope to issue correspondence in the near future, though we have not been provided with a definite time frame.
We were informed today by the CRC that they have discovered that their fax number has not been working for apparently quite some time. They informed us they are not certain when the problem began but they are working to resolve the issue. We recommend that RREs that have sent any correspondence to the CRC follow up with the CRC directly to confirm whether the correspondence was received. We were informed by the CRC that correspondence may still be faxed to the Benefits Coordination and Recovery Center and it will be forwarded to the CRC if appropriate.
We will provide any updates on the new recovery process upon receipt. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to let us know.
